Late winter through spring

Promposal

By PopTheQuestion Editorial. Reviewed by bahram samani.

A promposal works when the answer can be no. Keep it short, make it easy to decline in private, and ask the person, not the crowd. This page is general advice for students, not a list of stunts. PopTheQuestion Editorial wrote this page, and an AI tool may have helped prepare it. Every source is listed below with the date we read it.

Four ideas

  1. A note. Write one friendly line and hand it over when the two of you are alone.
  2. A message in person. Ask at a locker, after class or on a walk, with nobody watching.
  3. A small gift. Bring something they like, such as a snack or a flower, and ask plainly.
  4. A shared joke. Use something only the two of you know, so the question feels like you.

Whichever you choose, say what you mean in one sentence and let them answer in their own time.

Light for an evening ask

If you plan a late-afternoon ask outdoors, the sun calculator on this site, which uses NOAA formulas [1], gives these times for April 24, 2027.

Photos and sharing

Ask before taking or posting a photo of anyone, and take it down if they ask. Do not share a person's name, school or other details without their say, and do not involve a teacher or a stranger unless they agree. If the answer is no, thank them and let it be. A school's own rules come first, so check them before you plan anything on campus.

The proposal ideas hub is written for adults, but its advice on asking kindly and keeping the answer open applies here too.

Questions

What if they say no?

Say thank you and carry on. A promposal that is easy to decline leaves both of you comfortable.

Should I ask in public?

A private ask is the safer choice. If the person you are asking wants a public moment, they will let you know.
